Let’s Play!

Last month I shared the song in my heart because spring had finally arrived after a long cold New York winter. (Find the link here.) I had hymns in my head celebrating the rebirth of life! I wanted to rejoice as all of nature burst into bloom. I pulled out my markers and started drawing for fun, just a few doodles to say HOORAY! The fun of drawing has stuck with me I am still doodling.

The summer season officially began last weekend with Memorial Day. (I’m not even going to mention how fast the year if flying by, but it’s going at breakneck speed don’t you think?) I want to celebrate another season change. So I grabbed my markers again. Here are a couple more doodles to get you in the summer mood followed by my advice for summer.

My advice for this summer: Embrace the childlike fun parts of the season:

Forget the diet and have an ice cream cone…
Don’t worry about your hairdo and plunge in a pool…
Forgo the chores and take a walk instead…
Never mind the heat, stay up late, and enjoy the starry skies…
Find a way to enjoy the summer with childlike enthusiasm!

If you’d like to see more doodles of hymn lyrics, bible verses and quotes of encouragement take a look at my blog, LisaBogart.com. You can subscribe to the feed; a new doodle is posted every Monday and Friday. In the mean time, pull out your own markers or sit down with your kids and use theirs. Play. It’s summer!

  1. You are very right about time flying by so fast. Since I’ve retired it seems to go faster than it did when I worked. For the first part of this summer I’ve enjoyed making up planters for my deck and flower beds. I’ve loved to get into the planting so when things start to flower and grow I can sit back and see the beauty and enjoy the results of my hard work.
During the winder I planted seedlings of petunias and pansies. I’m watching my petunias grow strong and branch out in their hanging baskets and where I put them in my large pot planters and in the corner garden. Some have even started to bloom now. Pansies are also blooming and I have different colors than last year. I have a very pretty and unusual blue colored pansy which I’ve never seen before.
So as you can tell this is how I express myself. I even give my planters names. Last year I had one I called The Bridal Bouquet. Now this year I’m calling one with red geraniums and a white small flower that grows over side of pot Strawberry Delight. Since the white flowers remind me of strawberry blossoms and the red of the geranium really stands out and for some reason I think of strawberries.
    Have a fun summer.

    • Wow Shirley you have a terrific green thumb. I’ll confess mine are both brown. So I really admire those of you who can make a garden grow. Your planters sound lovely and I am delighted by the fact that you name them with such whimsy. Fun fun fun.
