DIY Projects for Your Family This Spring | Tina Hamilton

DIY Spring Family Projects

Springtime is all about “out with the old and in with the new.” Many of us use the inspiration of new spring blossoms and the return of singing birds to make some changes on our own lives. Some try to restart their New Year’s Resolutions or finally clean out that closet that has been neglected for so many years before.

This spring, take some time to reconnect with your family while you make some small home improvements. This will not only bring your family closer, but will also enrich your lives with accomplishment and a hopefully completed project that will make everyone’s lives more enjoyable. Take a look at this short list for some ideas to bring your family together and make this spring a little brighter.

Create more space

The clutter that overwhelms our lives can seem inevitable at times, but you can make little changes to clear out your home and create more space for relaxation. Yes, you may have to address that over-flowing closet eventually, but there are other ways to create more space in your home.

Changing out an old, traditional staircase for a spiral staircase can save you a lot of space and create a more open feel in your home. You can purchase spiral staircase kits and assemble them with ease on your own. Use the opportunity to teach your kids about measurements and weight distribution.

Revisit old memories

You have a million pictures and souvenirs from past family vacations that you have been meaning to scrapbook, and now is the perfect time to do it! If you are not a scrapbooking family, try some other unique and creative ideas to organize and display your memories.

Create a pin map to document all the places your family has traveled together. Paste pictures and event tickets from those trips to the map. For a trip with lots of tangible memories, create a shadow box. Buy the box at any craft supply store and simply fill it will your memorabilia, creating a background with pictures. You can even make this box into a memory box end table, which makes your memories a useful home item that everyone will enjoy.

Bring in some spring color

No matter your home décor, the bright colors of spring can add extra shine to any home. Use what nature brings in spring to give your home extra life. Pick flowers and dry them to hang in picture frames as a one-of-a-kind art piece. You can also use dried flowers and leaves to create a stained glass look on clear glass vases and candles by pasting them around the glass and letting the light shine through them.

Paint is always one of the best ways to freshen up a home. Add bright colors to update any room. A new trend that can add some fun to your home is painting or wallpapering the front of your stairs. This often neglected space in the home can make a big statement with the right color or pattern.
