Amish Communities to Visit

I have all things Amish on my mind, what with the upcoming release of The Kissing Bridge. So I  asked you on Facebook what Amish communities you’d like to visit. Here are some answers:

Jessica R.—Holmes County
Rachelle M.—I live in the best Amish community! Shipshewana, IN!
Kym A.—Lancaster, I love it there!
Amy B.—Belleville, or Reedsville, PA — I miss home!
Kathleen B.—Seymour, MO
Karla H.—Paradise, PA
Jennifer T.—Arthur, IL
Kevin E.—Bird in Hand, PA
Caren G.—Houghton, NY
Chris M.—I highly recommend Pinecraft in Sarasota, FL.

Here’s a picture from my own trip to an Amish community!

How about you? Where have you visited?

  1. I’ve visited Holmes County, OH; Lancaster County, PA; Arthur, IL; Jamesport, MO; briefly through Bowling Green, MO, and Seymour, MO. I would love to go to Sarasota, FL, as well as several other states — Tennessee, Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, Colorado, New York — I guess anywhere there are Amish communities! 🙂

  2. Aquilla Yagoda says:

I became familiar with the Amish communities in Etheridge, TN, and when I married my in-laws lived close to Lancaster and we went to the Kutztown, PA annual folk festival. Now I lived close to Holmes Co, OH community and there are a lot in Geauga Co., OH. One farmer grows some things that I’ve asked about and lets me know when they are ready. When I received my first phone call from him, I was shocked. But we have become friendly over the years.

  3. I was able to visit Elkhart, Indiana several years ago. We made a trip to Shipshewana for a day and I had a lovely time. I would be happy to visit any Amish community. I’m in California and not aware of any nearby communities.

    • Janeen, I’ve read that some Amish go to a clinic in Baja California (I think Tijuana). A Google search for “Amish baja clinic” or whatever should yield more details.

You could drive to the border, park there, walk across, then take a cab to the place. I’ll bet you could run into some families who are wandering the area (as they wait for their loved one’s treatment to be completed).
