When Tears Fall

I sat with a girlfriend tonight. We have known each other through ten years of life. She is one who encourages me often and lifts me up when I am feeling down. But tonight it was her tears gushing, spilling, and flooding our moments.

Words like failure, overwhelmed, tired, non-stop, unable, need . . . more . . . time, were flowing freely from her mouth.

I have been there. I have felt the same sense of emptiness she was feeling. Can I assume you have been there, too?

There was absolutely NOTHING I could do to stop her emotions.

The negatives she was communicating about herself ARE untrue! But in that space of time all I could do was be an ear to hear.

When I feel worthless I need this: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:8-9

If today is a rough day, PLEASE trust that God prepared you for it. You have been equipped and trusted to do the tasks He put before you. You, yes you, are His handiwork! He doesn’t care if the dishes are still in the sink, if the clothes are not folded, or if you need even to be slightly selfish and watch a bit of television. He loves you just the same and it is with a love that has no end.

Encourage another today!

  1. Lovely post Carey! I am happy to say that I am in a ‘smiles season’ of life, but oh how long the teary seasons have lasted! I know if I were in that place in this moment, this post would be just the hug I needed. I will pass it on on Facebook and know that it will bless someone today!
