I Resolve to . . . | Not Quite Amish

I Resolve to . . .

Yes, it’s that time of year. The calendar was flipped to 2013, and everyone in America (and I’m sure a few other countries) are making resolutions for a new year. Most everyone has a similar list. I even found one on the internet.

  1. Stop Smoking
  2. Get into a Habit of Being Fit
  3. Lose Weight
  4. Enjoy Life More
  5. Quit Drinking
  6. Organize Yourself
  7. Learn Something New
  8. Get Out of Debt
  9. Spend More Time With Family
  10. Help People

Look familiar? At least one or two of the items are on most adults’ lists. But I started wondering how to achieve these. Then it hit me, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

So I looked through the resolutions again, but with different eyes—through the eyes of a student of the Bible—and wondered how I could accomplish these tasks but this time with God’s help.

I want to stop smoking. I can do all things through Christ. I want to get into the habit of being fit. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I want to lose weight. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. And on and on.

But I want to add a number eleven to the list. Another resolution that I personally want to move to my own number-one position: Pray more. Follow that and everything else will fall into place.

Happy New Year!

  1. Well said. One of my goals is to get a certain pair of jeans to zip again! I found myself praying yesterday for strength as I watch my hubby devour chocolate after chocolate! HE did pull me through!

  2. I have enjoyed making goals for the new year the last couple years. What is really encouraging is looking back and seeing how I fulfilled those goals!

  3. Have a great new year! Blessings to you and good luck if you garden/farm!
