As I mentioned on Twitter/Facebook a few weeks ago, I am not a pink polish type of gal. I’m not even really a super colorful outfits type of gal. If you could look at my closet, you’d see 70% neutrals and probably 30% color. But after seeing an editorial spread in a January magazine of (very) colorful outfits, I decided to take a risk. After all, it’s the new year, so why not try something new?

The key to wearing similar color tones all in one outfit is just that: stick to similar color tones. You don’t want to wear items that are the same shade, otherwise you’ll look like a pink or blue monster. Adding different tones gives depth to your outfit. Here I paired different shades of pink, cream, and fushia—and they all work together!

I must admit that the end result was something I loved. Would I have ever put these pieces together — all in one outfit—without grabbing some magazine inspiration? Probably not. Ever. But I’m glad to know that I can be proven wrong. Bring on the color, 2013!

  2. Love, love, love all the colour. Winter clothes always seem to drab to me that it is so nice to see something so bright and cheery.
