I’m a sucker for baking books, but not just any baking book. They have to be pretty exceptional. Meaning, I don’t just want another take on the chocolate chip cookie; I want some major goodness going on.
After experiencing countless “oh-my-mmmm-that’s-amazing” recipes from my sister-in-law, I had to find her secret. That’s when A Passion For Baking and I got real close. I used up two pads of sticky notes just marking all the recipes I wanted to try!
How can you go wrong with recipe titles like these:
- The Best Pizza Dough Ever (pg 73)
- Sticky Cashmere Muffins (pg 108)
- Vanilla Cheesecake-Stuffed Brownies (pg 155)
- Caramel-Chocolate Cookie-Stuffed Sour Cream Deluxe Cake (pg 230)
How many more delicious adjectives can we put in there?
The author, Marcy Goldman, is not only an exceptional baker and recipe creator, she’s also a pretty good writer. A Passion For Baking is full of recipes, yes, but it also has a conversational feel to it, as if you’re visiting together in her kitchen and she’s divulging her deepest kitchen secrets to you.
So far, I’ve made homemade crescent rolls, chocolate glazed doughnuts, and the most gorgeous muffins you’ve ever seen, or tasted, to name a few. But one of the recipes I make over and over again are her Blueberries-and-Cream Mall Muffins (pg 103).
Because I like to write in my cookbooks, I know when what I’ve baked is tried and true. This one earned such a statement, “Like eating cake batter with blueberries—so sweet!” How can you not want to make it?
A Passion For Baking gave me inspiration to try new ingredients, helped me understand why pure vanilla is necessary, and made parchment paper my new best friend. It’s baking—unveiled.
